The annual meeting of COST Action ‘NEXT’, of which Prof. Mancini is Vice-chair, organizer, and speaker, took place at the Institute of Physics of Zagreb (HR), on July 14-18, 2025. During the workshop, whose aim was to promote the discussion of novel approaches ultrafast non-linear EUV/X-rays methods, Claudia Schrama presented  a talk entitled “Ultrafast ptychographic imaging of order-disorder correlations in hybrid nanoparticle topologies”. Prof. Mancini and Antonio Mazzarone acknowledge Flavio Capotondi and the DiProI team for collaborative experiments at the in-house beamtime on July 5-7, 2025. On July 7-8 2025, Prof. Mancini attended the FISMAT 2025 – CNISM symposium: "From ultrafast magnetism to quantum materials: new insights with new instruments", of which she was organizer and chair. The SPICE workshop "Characterization and control of quantum materials with optical vortex beams" took place in Ingelheim (D) on 10-12 June 2025. Prof. Mancini served as main organizer & chair. This ERC in Italy event took place in Naples on May 22-23 at the University of Naples Federico II. Prof. Mancini joined to discuss ERC projects as panelist, learn from peers and share mentorship tips & tricks with young applicants. Find out more

Nicola Giani, here working on the Ultrafast Laser System maintenance with KMLabs Engineers, has obtained a permanent appointment as Laboratory Engineer at LUXEM. Congratulations to him for this achievement, and to the University of Pavia for supporting LUXEM research.

In May 2025, Claudia spent a week at LACUS where she performed collaborative experiments with the LUMES team on Ultrafast Electron Diffraction. We thank Prof. Carbone and his group for their collaboration on our joint EU research projects.

The purpose of the school was to provide young researchers involved within the Action with training on current developments on attosecond experiments. In particular: (i) attosecond science and technology, devoted to the generation and application of attosecond pulses to the investigation of electronic dynamics in atoms, molecules, nanostructures and condensed phases; (ii) fundamentals, methods and applications of free electron lasers in atomic and molecular science. This School hosted Nobel Prize winners Pierre Agostini and Anne L’Huillier. We are delighted to announce the opening of our second research facility LUXEM 2 at  the Department of Physics of the University of Pavia. The new laboratory’s aim is two-fold: (i) prototyping new technology for out-of-equilibrium studies of soft-condensed matter; (ii) fostering the development of young researchers competences, with set-ups of Atomic Force Microscopy, Optical Microscopy, Fourier Optics. The laboratory is also equipped with an ultrafast laser oscillator for training on mode-locking and ultrafast laser physics. LUXEM thanks the ERC HYPER PoC, Fondazione Cariplo’s NanoFast, and the University of Pavia for the synergistic effort. Find out more
