Computational Scientist in Coherent Ultrafast Imaging

At the Laboratory for Ultrafast X-ray and Electron Microscopy (LUXEM), we develop & utilize innovative methods for ultrafast microscopy characterized by high temporal and spatial resolution. LUXEM invites applications for a Computational Scientist for its advanced time-resolved imaging & diffraction facility.


  • Development, implementation and optimization of novel algorithms and data processing modules for ptychography CDI
  • Cohesive organization of imaging data platform at LUXEM
  • Innovation management, technology scouting


  • You have a University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics – or equivalent experience
  • You have experience in data analysis and programming in Python & Matlab
  • You are familiar with imaging data analysis and statistical data analysis methods
  • You have a basic knowledge in reconstruction algorithms for Coherent Diffractive Imaging
  • You are a quick learner and working in a multi-cultural environment motivates you

Your profile is rounded off by having:

  • Good knowledge of English
  • Natural aptitude towards team-working and good communication skills
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving aptitude and good time management skills


  • Entry/mid-level temporary contract
  • Initially limited to 1 year, renewable on a yearly base
  • Full-time employee
  • Workplace: Laboratory for Ultrafast X-ray and Electron Microscopy (LUXEM), University of Pavia (Italy)
  • Estimated starting date: as soon as possible.
